CAMPROSAM-Groundwater and Surface Water Management in Cameroon

Water Management Through Innovative Technical Approaches

Groundwater and Surface Management

Groundwater and surface water are essential resources for agriculture, drinking water, and ecosystem health. CAMPROSAM employs integrated water management practices to ensure the sustainable use of these resources across Cameroon.

  • Groundwater Management: We focus on the sustainable extraction of groundwater while safeguarding aquifer health. Our efforts include groundwater recharge programs and the use of hydrological modeling for better prediction and management of water availability.

  • Surface Water Management: We aim to improve the management of rivers, lakes, and wetlands, emphasizing the balance between human use and natural ecosystems. Projects involve the development of river basin management plans and flood control measures.

Sustainability in water resource management is at the core of CAMPROSAM’s work. We address the challenges of climate change, population growth, and resource depletion by implementing long-term strategies for efficient water use.

  • Water Conservation: Promoting water-efficient irrigation techniques and rainwater harvesting to reduce dependence on groundwater.

  • Public Awareness: Educating local communities on the importance of water conservation, pollution prevention, and sustainable farming practices.

  • Monitoring and Regulation: CAMPROSAM supports the development of regulatory frameworks that ensure sustainable water extraction and usage.

Efficient watershed and river basin management is vital for maintaining water quality, preventing floods, and supporting agriculture.

  • River Basin Approach: We develop management plans for major river basins like the Mezam, Mungo, and Wouri, focusing on water quality, flood risk management, and ecological preservation.

  • Erosion Control and Restoration: Our projects address soil erosion and promote riparian buffer zones to maintain water quality and improve ecosystem resilience.

Water security is critical for both the rural and urban populations of Cameroon. CAMPROSAM is dedicated to improving water safety through risk assessments, emergency preparedness, and resilience building.

  • Water Quality Monitoring: Regular monitoring of water sources to prevent contamination from pollutants such as pesticides, industrial waste, and domestic wastewater.

  • Emergency Response: Developing contingency plans for areas facing droughts, floods, or contamination events, ensuring quick response and access to safe drinking water.
